Hawaii Wage Garnishment Calculator
Hawaii takes a graduated slice of each month’s pay after required deductions — 5% of the first $100, 10% of the next $100 and 20% of the rest — then the federal cap applies if lower.
Graduated monthly percentages
five per cent of the first $100 per month, ten per cent of the next $100 per month, and twenty per cent of all sums in excess of $200 per month, or an equivalent portion of the above amount per week
A Honolulu monthly salary
Hawaii’s tiers are written for a month, which makes a salaried monthly paycheck the natural example. With $5,200.00 gross and $1,150.00 withheld, $4,050.00 remains; 5% of the first $100 and 10% of the next $100 add $15, and 20% of everything above $200 brings the total to $785.00 — about 19.4% of the check, below the federal $1,012.50.
District-court affidavits and excess funds
- The percentages apply to wages remaining after amounts required by law to be withheld — effectively disposable earnings.§1
- In district court, ten days after judgment the creditor can file a certified copy of the judgment and an affidavit with your employer, who must either file a disclosure within a week or start withholding.§1
- Before judgment, the garnishee fund may not exceed 120% of the claim including costs and interest.§1
- You can ask the court to find the garnishee fund excessive and release the remainder.§1
