Missouri Wage Garnishment Calculator
Missouri limits garnishment to 10% of disposable earnings for a head of family who lives in Missouri; everyone else gets the federal limit.
Head of family: 10% instead of 25%
On a $2,200.00 two-week check with $280.00 withheld, a single Kansas City worker can be garnished $480.00. If that worker heads a family and lives in Missouri, the cap falls to 10% — $192.00 — a difference of $288.00 every payday. Someone commuting in from Kansas does not qualify for the lower rate.

may not exceed (a) twenty-five percentum, or, (b) the amount by which his aggregate earnings for that week … exceed thirty times the federal minimum hourly wage … or, (c) if the employee is the head of a family and a resident of this state, ten percentum, whichever is less.
Residency and the earnings base
- The 10% applies only if you are both the head of a family and a Missouri resident — a non-resident working in Missouri gets 25%.§1
- The statute computes earnings after amounts required by law to be withheld, the same base as federal disposable earnings.§1
- Missouri’s $15.00 minimum wage does not raise the floor, which stays at 30 times the federal $7.25.§2
